R.I.P. Pauly Fuemana (OMC)

New Zealand musician Pauly Fuemana, frontman for the band OMC, died this morning at North Shore Hospital following a short period of illness, he was 40 years old.

His family was expected to issue a statement later today.

In 1995 OMC (Otara Millionaires Club) shot to fame with the single How Bizarre which reached number one in New Zealand, Australia, Canada, and parts of Europe.

OMC moved between three and four million copies of their album, also titled How Bizarre, making it New Zealand's biggest-selling record.

The song "How Bizarre" is the biggest-selling New Zealand record of all time and went to number one in New Zealand, Australia, Canada, Ireland, South Africa and Austria.

It also topped the United States airplay charts and peaked at number five in the United Kingdom.

The band broke up in 2000. They reformed in 2007 and released a single 4 All of Us, featuring actor Lucy Lawless.

R.I.P. Pauly, How Bizarre well always be remembered and so will you.

Oddisee-Traveling Man

Yo...what's really good?

Anyone that reads this blog (and props to those that do, are following CRDS and leave comments) will know that Diamond District's-In The Ruff album was my favourite album of 2009 and that I am a big fan of Washington D.C.'s Oddisee's production and MCing, well just after he gave us the dope and recent Odd Winter EP (along with the Odd Summer EP, Odd Autumn EP, 101, 102 and Mental Liberation...here is the outstanding Traveling Man LP, A superb instrumental album packed to the brim with classic breaks and interesting soundscapes, this is already my fave album of 2010, it's available as a digital release and in CD form....don't sleep.

As a musician, life is often lived on the road. Each city leaves its imprint on the artist as they develop their craft. Touring, recording, and keeping up with friends and family took Oddisee beyond his hometown of Washington DC to Australia, Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America. From cities like East Africa's Khartoum in Sudan, to cosmopolitan jaunts like Paris & Tokyo. The influence of these travels can be heard on every one of the 24 tracks included on "Traveling Man".

Each track was produced while Oddisee stayed in the city it was titled after. The result is a 24 city sonic tour of the world. Listen as Oddisee guides you through his instrumental journey around the globe. Visit the lonely winter streets of Detroit, festive San Francisco, hypnotic Khartoum - or let your swagger loose with the theme music of Chicago or the bounce of South Central. Oddisee sees the world, so that you can hear it.

As a musician, life is often lived on the road. Each city leaves its imprint on the artist as they develop their craft. For Oddisee, the producer and MC brainchild behind 2009’s critically acclaimed Diamond District, the life and travels of the artist is no mystery. Touring, recording, and keeping up with friends and family took Oddisee beyond his hometown of Washington DC to Australia, Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America. Rather than keep these experiences to himself, Oddisee is instead releasing a new 24-track instrumental album, sharing his worldly experiences – through music, directly with his fans; a 24 city sonic tour of the world. With this new release, Oddisee is the Traveling Man.

Being released digitally today and as a limited edition vinyl pressing on February 23rd, Traveling Man is an instrumental album truly influenced by the producer’s surroundings. Each track was produced while Oddisee stayed in the city it was titled after. No need for a passport because Oddisee sees the world, so that you can hear it. Listen up.

R.I.P. Apache

Sad to say (and so quickly after the death of Killa Sha) but a member and integral part of the original Flavor Unit and cousin of Latee has passed on, Apache (Anthony Teaks) died from a protracted illness on Jan 22nd 2010
, Apache will definitely be most remembered for his classic Q-Tip produced joint, 1992' "Gangsta Bitch" and his only album Apache Aint Shit (1993) which had production from Large Professor, DJ Mark The 45 King, Diamond D, S.I.D. Reynolds, Double J and Apache himself.

Apache first appeared on
DJ Mark The 45 King and Louie Loiue's-Rhythmical Madness LP in 1989 on the cut "Smooth Yet Hard" which also featured Lakim Shabazz (come back Lakim Hip Hop needs you), then Apache had 3 cuts on great the The 45 King Presents The Flavor Unit LP (1990).

Apache also appeared on the dope Flavor Unit posse cut "Flavor Unit Assassination Squad" and had a dope cut on the 1993 release-Flavor Unit-Roll Wit Da Flava with "Keep It Real" (my fave joint from Apache)
as well as guest appearances on records from Double J, Fat Joe, Naughty By Nature,Queen Latifah and 2-Pac, he also had a cameo role a mechanic in the film "Whos The Man" (1993)

R.I.P. Killa Sha

By now everyone should know that Hip Hop's first death of this year has sadly been a Queensbdrige vet, MC, Producer and DJ (with 98 crates in the crib) that went by the names Prince A.D. (of "Lyrical Flava" fame) was part of the Super Kids and the Killa Kidz and later changed his name to Killa Sha, releasing a few mixtapes and his dope Gold Walk On Water album on 2007.

Sha, sadly passed due to complications from diabetes
and he had a follow up to God Walk On Water, The Shepherd and a completed album with Large Professor, so while Sha Lumi may be gone, his dope music will always live on

R.I.P. Sha

my favourite joint of his
